This base is designed for standard center-pole umbrella poles, typically 38 mm and 48 mm. The fit is stated in the specification data on this page - check it against your pole diameter before ordering.

As a working rule the base should weigh roughly one fifth to one quarter of the canopy area for a standard parasol, and heavier for larger or vented canopies. A 3 m round canopy typically wants 25-40 kg; a 4 m canopy wants considerably more.

Water gives the quickest installation and can be removed for storage; sand adds roughly half again the weight in the same volume and is better in cold climates; concrete gives the highest stability with the least maintenance.

On hard surfaces use a resin, concrete or water-filled base with a rubber or plastic protector underneath to avoid scratching and pooling. On soft ground an in-ground base is more stable than a weighted block.

Filled bases are heavy, so move them with two people or by draining part of the water. Empty and dry the base before winter storage to prevent staining and frost damage.

Wash with mild soap and water, drain after rain so the weight does not sit permanently, and inspect the fixings at the start of each season. Avoid abrasive cleaners on resin bases.
