Frame & Structure Customization

Frame & Structure Customization

Frame and structure sized to the plan

Frames on this range are powder coated, welded, and finished and upholstered in our own workshop. Most of the range is aluminium rather than steel because it does not rust, which matters more on a coastal terrace than the small weight saving, and the frames sit inside our ISO 9001 quality management system.

What follows is what each line actually uses: the section, the base, the table top and the parts that move. Structure is settled with the layout, because the section and the base have to suit the surface the pieces stand on and the way the space is used.

Sections, and why the profile matters

The section sets how rigid a piece feels and how much of it is metal. Three constructions cover most of the range.

Bases, and how each one carries the load

The base decides how a piece sits on the paving and how it feels when someone leans on the end of a run.

BaseHow it is built
Sled profileA vertical front leg, a floor runner and a rearward-slanted back leg
Four splayed legsFront legs lean slightly forward and the rear legs lean well back
Four round tube legsNear vertical, with foot pads, and no cross rail under the seat
X-crossed legsCrossed at both ends, with a longitudinal beam under the top
Centre XFour white legs from under the centre, crossing in the middle to form one X
Centre hubA circular spindle with four flat rectangular legs splaying outward
X-crossed supportsCrossed supports at both ends, with a beam under the top

Table tops, and the warm accents

Wood-look and stone-look surfaces are available where the scheme calls for them, alongside the plain slat top.

What moves, and what stays fixed

Four mechanisms appear across the range. Everything else is a fixed frame, which is why the section and the base carry most of the load.

MechanismWhat it does
Adjustable backThe back angle is set on a pneumatic cylinder
Two-section backThe back is built in two panels
SwivelThe seat rotates on the base
Extending topThe table extends from 220 cm to 280 cm
Fold-out centre panelA round top with a centre panel that raises to extend it
Modular sectionsSingle, double, corner and armless sections ordered on their own
Curved modulesA curved run built from single modules and a side table

The frames the range is built on

Most of the range is white or dark charcoal powder coated aluminium, running from a matt white round tube frame built on one continuous tube per side to a dark charcoal square section, with shaped aluminium tubes of 75 x 75 mm and 70 x 15 mm on the seating of the six-piece teak-arm corner set, a matt dark charcoal steel frame on the adjustable back dining armchair, and a custom colour available on the rope weave lounge set.

From the drawing to the finished frame

Four steps, and the frame is signed off before anything is welded.

section and base

1. Section and base are chosen

The section and the base are matched to the layout, the surface the pieces stand on and any fixing requirement.

finish and accents

2. Finish and accents are agreed

The powder coat colour is agreed against a reference, and any wood-look accents are confirmed on a sample.

one piece

3. One piece is built as a sample

One piece is built in your section, base and finish, so the frame is judged at full size rather than on a drawing.

the whole order

4. The order is built to that sample

The approved sample becomes the reference for the rest of the order, so every piece matches the one you signed off.

Do and avoid

Four things that decide whether a frame still looks right after a season on site.

Avoid

Choosing the base before the surface. A sled base and a splayed leg sit very differently on loose gravel, a wooden deck and stone paving.

Avoid

Specifying a warm accent late. A wood-look armrest cap or a wood-grain top changes the frame, so it is cheaper to settle it with the section.

Do

Say what the pieces stand on, and whether they have to be moved. A frame that is dragged weekly needs a different base from one that never moves.

Do

Ask for the frame in your colour under a real light. A powder coat reference on a screen and on a terrace are not the same colour.

Frequently asked questions

Q

Is the frame aluminium or steel? Most of the range is powder coated aluminium, which does not rust. One dining line, the adjustable back armchair, uses a matt dark charcoal steel frame formed as a rectangular armrest loop.

Q

Can the frame be a custom colour?Yes. White and dark charcoal are the standing powder coat colours, and a custom colour is matched against a reference. The rope weave lounge set is quoted powder coated aluminium alloy in a custom colour.

Q

What is the wood on the arms and the tables?Wood-look accents are available where a scheme calls for them: armrest caps, slats and wood-grain table tops. The teak on the rope weave armchair and the six-piece teak-arm corner set is solid and FSC certified.

Q

Can a set be extended later? On the modular lines, yes. The six-piece corner set is built from single, double, corner and armless sections ordered on their own, and the curved modular line is a run assembled from single modules and a side table.
