To rotate your Roman umbrella properly, first ensure that your umbrella model is designed with a rotation function. Most high-quality Roman umbrellas come with a built-in swivel base or rotating foot pedal. Before you attempt to rotate the canopy, fully open the umbrella and make sure the base is secured with the proper weights or ground anchors to keep it stable during rotation.

Most Roman umbrellas include a foot pedal or handle near the bottom of the pole.
To rotate, gently press the foot pedal with your foot to unlock the rotation mechanism. While keeping the pedal pressed, slowly push the umbrella pole or the main arm in the direction you want the canopy to face. You can rotate it left or right depending on where you need the shade.
Once you reach the desired position, release the foot pedal to lock the base in place. Always make sure the umbrella clicks back into the locked position to prevent accidental movement in windy conditions.
Some Roman umbrellas have a handle-based swivel instead of a foot pedal. In this case, loosen the handle or knob, manually swivel the canopy, and then tighten the handle again to secure the position. Never force the rotation if you feel resistance—check for debris or obstacles around the base that may block smooth movement.
